So far I’ m happy with my purchase..Has good power and also the run time isn’t to bad considering its cutting through allot of stuff so if you have a well maintained yard and only have to keep it on low then you should be able to finish most all yard work before the battery goes dead..My only complaint is wish they would have made the guard wider and just all around a bit more wider so stuff doesn’ t fly up as often as it does… mean don’t get me wrong its not the worst ever but being that its Dewalt they know darn good and well they could have made the guard better all around though its a great weed eater for sure

I recently purchased this weed eater and finally got to use it and man does it have power. I’ve always been skeptical towards battery weed eaters versus gas, but DeWalt pulls through as always. I’ve landscaped sine I was a kid, although high school and college for work and have generally stuck with Stihl or echo. I would put this up against either of those any day of the week.

I bought this to replace lighter duty black and decker battery trimmer. I’m able to trim my 1/2 acre yard on a single charge (low power mode). I didn’t even need to switch to more power, this has plenty of power for me even cutting 12” tall grass.

I suggested that my daughter who had just purchased her first home get one of these. I had the opportunity to try hers out when i visited. I was very impressed that it had very ample power and that it has two speeds to allow folks who aren’t that strong to handle it. I have other 20 volt DeWalt tools and am glad that my previously bought batteries will work in this unit. I also advised my daughter that she can do the same when she gets some more power tools. I looked at the non-folding counterpart to this trimmer and it seemed flimsy. I figured it was worth a few extra bucks to get this one. A really nice thing about this tool is that it works well to edge my lawn – I have an old gas powered Weed Eater and was looking for an edger. However, after trying my daughter’s trimmer, I decided to retire my old gasser and join Buck Rodgers in the 21st century and go electric. Now I have a powerful trimmer that functions as an effective edger too. It is nice to see that the battery form-factor will works on so many other DeWalt tools – including the lawn mowers (for when my wife can no longer push our manual reel mower; take it easy there haters – she does it for exercise and does not mind). The only thing I would suggest to make this unit more customer-friendly, is that the screws holding the line guard use Allen-heads the same size as the included wrench for the Auxiliary Handle. That way the user has everything they need to get going right in the box. One final point; I saw a negative reviewer complain about the weight, balance, and lack of ambidexterity of this fine product. To that I say; maybe try one from another maker – it will likely not be as good as this tool (i.e. flimsy, lousy batteries, right-hand preferential, weak warranty, etc., etc., etc). The competition may be a less heavy but for me, when it comes to tools robustness is worth the extra weight.

I don’t write many reviews, only when the product exceeds expectations and performs really well. I bought this today for my daughter and trimmed her entire yard, including 2 foot grass along the fence and landscaping beds that have not been serviced for over a year. I’m an electrical engineer that designs BLDC motors and controls and I’m very impressed with this device (I’ve been impressed with all Dewalt BLDC designs I’ve tested). I didn’t think a 20V 5Ahr battery pack could perform the way this did, and it was very impressive! I compliment the Dewalt engineers for a great design!.

With the help of a DeWalt replacement spool nut and a few washers I was able to attach a 6-1/2 inch carbide blade. I’m now able to cut down brush, up to one and a half inch diameter.
