It worked well on my shag type rug as well as other area rugs. It also has an emergency release in the event you find it sucking up the whole rug. For some reason I keep thinking the power button is on the handle where you hold to push it, which seems like it would be more convenient than having to find where the emergency release is, which isn’t located by the power button either.
