Read many of these reviews before I purchased the SWJ802E 8″ model. Needed to purchase a pole saw due to a broken branch on an oak tree. Break was around 25′ from the ground but I was more concerned about cutting away as many branches as I could safely reach from an 8′ step ladder. Weight was a concern especially when fully extended as I am 70 and upper body strength is not as it once was. Once received and after assembly I extended the pole to the maximum and did find the balance was top heavy. I did however find a great solution I wish to pass on. Using a short bungee cord and tested 1lb & 3lb steel weight plates (the kind with a center hole for hand dumbbells I attached a counter weight to the handle end of the saw. Folding the cord in half and threading it through the weight hole then the cord lope though the square hole on the end of the handle and over the hook made handling the extended pole easy. I found the 3lb weight worked best for me but another combination may suit you better. See the attached photos. In general I really like this pole saw and I am very happy with this purchase.
