Joe –
The RIDGID Cold Box in Gray arrived on my porch super fast after ordering it. At first, it looks like just a normal cooler, or even another RIDGID tool/job box. However, while RIDGID boxes are black with orange trim, this RIDGID Cold Box comes in grey (with the orange seal) which when you are looking at towers of tool boxes (or spread out boxes) at a job site, you’ll know immediately which one is the cooler. Nice thought so as not have to opening each of the boxes. The box-long carrying handle at first seems stiff but once working it a bit, it’s got just the right amount of tension so its intention is to stay put where you want it to. The handle also eases down on either side of the cooler, not just one or the other. There are handles on both sides of the cooler to make it easy to move without the longer carrying handle or for even two people to carry the cooler. The 2 “cup holders” on the closed lid are nice but they really have no depth and won’t prevent cups from spilling over. These latches are super nice to operate and didn’t aggravate my carpal tunnel or arthritis – they are very user friendly, yet still do the job of keeping a nice tight seal (along with the rubber/silicone [?] seal) to keep the inside cold or cool. The 42 can capability comes from stacking them 2-can high inside the cooler. But do know it can still hold water and beer bottles, tall boy cans, and a lot more. Depending on HOW you cool down the RIDGID Cold Box will determine the length its contents stay cool/cold. I would say 48 hours is probably its upper limit but the RIDGID Cold Box does a really nice job of keeping its contents as cool and cold – like the cans and bottles came out of a refrigerator. However, with the cooler weighing about 10 pounds while empty, the RIDGID Cold Box will get much heavier after you add cans, bottles, and/or ice to it. I knows that’s an obvious comment but do make sure you eat your Wheaties when you’re hauling this around. The exterior of the Cold Box is definitely RIDGID – not only by its manufacturer’s moniker but also by its construction. This cooler is one tough cookie and will protect its inside and contents but the outside too! One BIG note – the non-latch side (the one with the hinges) has a more slender profile so when you carry the RIDGID Cold Box, do so with the latches facing out. You won’t keep hitting your leg when carrying the cooler. How clever! Maybe other coolers have this feature too but I don’t own all of them. I definitely see the value in the RIDGID Cold Box and feel it is worth the price, features and convenience.
